When God Changed The Way I Think

When God Changed The Way I Think

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2

I remember sitting there after losing my job of five years.

No clear plan.
No steady income.
Just responsibility, especially as a single father, and a thousand thoughts running through my mind.

What am I going to do?
How is this going to work?
What if I can’t provide?

On the outside it looked like a financial problem.

But what God showed me was that it was a mindset problem.

Because everything I was thinking in that moment came from fear, pressure, and the patterns of the world. The need to have it all figured out. The need to stay in control. The belief that if I didn’t fix it, everything would fall apart.

That’s when I surrendered it in prayer.

And just like that, before anything in my situation changed, something shifted in me.

Peace came in.
Clarity started to follow.
And my thinking began to change.

That’s when I started to understand what transformation really means.

It’s not just about God changing your situation.
It’s about Him changing the way you see your situation.

The world will always try to shape how you think.

It tells you to chase security, depend on yourself, and panic when things don’t go according to plan. For a long time, I lived like that — reacting instead of trusting, striving instead of surrendering.

But God does something different.

He renews your mind.

Through prayer.
Through His Word.
Through moments where He gently corrects how you’re thinking and reminds you of what’s actually true.

Where there was anxiety, He brought peace.
Where there was striving, He taught surrender.
Where there was fear, He replaced it with trust.

And it didn’t happen all at once.

It still doesn’t.

But I’ve learned this: when your mind starts to change, everything else begins to follow.

You don’t have to think the way the world taught you to think.

You can be transformed.

One thought at a time.
One surrender at a time.
One day at a time.

Takeaway:

Transformation starts in the mind when we allow God to replace fear with truth.

Prayer:

God, renew our minds. In moments where fear tries to take over, remind us of Your truth. Help us release the patterns we’ve learned from the world and trust You fully. Amen.

God may not change your situation right away, but He will change the way you see it. And that changes everything.
